On Friday it was Twilight graduation and a first look at Kristen Stewart’s Bella hair. As I reported a couple of weeks ago, she did not want to have extensions added on to her Joan Jett hair. Love her for that. But this wig looks busted. And Jackson Rathbone is the bowlegged hotness. Damn.
About the scenes – the day before (Thursday), “Bella” and her high school friends were in the cafeteria, excited about graduation. During filming for graduation the following afternoon, “Jessica” gives a speech.
Earlier in the week however was much more interesting.
You will see attached a photo of a Twilight fan arriving in Vancouver from Germany. Her name is Sabrina Frank. Sabrina won a contest and the prize was that they created a character for her to play in the movie. Am told exclusively that her character’s name is Vera and Vera is somehow involved with Jack Huston’s “Royce King” and Nikki Reed’s “Rosalie”. Huston is pictured here leaving Vancouver.
Before leaving they all shot together in the park a scene that takes place in Rochester in 1933 in which Royce leers at Vera while an oblivious Rosalie is next to him. Later on, Rosalie (still human) is seen alone with Vera who has a baby. I’m sure you Twi-Hards can put it all together.
In New Moon, the second installment in Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular Twilight saga, readers are first introduced to the ancient ruling class of vampires known as the Volturi. Determined to capture their creepy menace for his screen version opening Nov. 20, New Moon director Chris Weitz has given them custom-crafted blood-red eyes.
"They're all hand-painted, specially manufactured contacts," Weitz tells PEOPLE. "They're opaque red, almost like preying mantis eyes. You can't really see into them. There's something terribly off-putting about it."
British actor Michael Sheen (The Queen) plays Aro, leader of the Italian blood-sucking clan. Although Aro and his brothers Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) and Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) have been "alive" for thousands of years, Weitz says he "deliberately" gave them a younger look in the film – for which he credits author Meyer.
"Stephenie was very keen to steer away from a kind of wizard-y look for the vampires," says Weitz. "They do look quite young, but they convey a formality and self-possession, which comes from age."
Perhaps most lethal of all the Volturi is Jane (Dakota Fanning), an angelic-looking vampire who inflicts torture on her victims. "She is very strange and very spooky in this movie," says Weitz. "I think [Dakota] wanted to play an evil character for once."
Lainey Gossip shares pics of Jack Huston, Peter, Justin & Christian in Vancouver, as well as juicy set details!
The main stars have been hard at work this week. David Slade tweeted on Monday that he shot with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and I can tell you exclusively that Kristen has also been working with Taylor Lautner this week. “Bella” goes on a piggyback run with “Jacob” and they run through the forest. She also drops blood everywhere, and at some point she punches him in the face after he kisses her.
And for the Twi-Hards, Slade’s Tweet referred to scenes between Stewart and Pattinson that took place in the “meadow”. My source tells me that they talk about getting married, they roll around a little, and they agree on a wedding date.
Trailer Park shares what it deems a Summit released promo pic of Jane!
JANE Full Name: Jane Status: Vampire Group: Volturi Coven Date of Birth: Unknown Date of Transformation: Unknown but at a young age Special Abilities: Ability to inflict debilitating pain with her thoughts
“This may hurt just a little.”
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Jane is a high ranking member of the Volturi Guard. The Volturi were waiting to change her and her brother Alec until she was older, but humans—believing her and her brother to be witches—tried to burn them at the stake, which forced Aro to act while the twins were little more than children. Jane’s experience with the pain of burning alive shaped her into a potent weapon – she developed the ability to inflict immense pain on others with only a look.
There is also some general Volturi detail: VOLTURI 1) The Volturi include: Aro, Caius, and Marcus as the leaders, and then Jane, Alec, Demetri, Felix, Heidi, and several other unnamed members of the guard. 2) The Volturi are similar to a ruling body, and protect the secret of vampires by wiping out any “problems” as vampire law defines. 3) The Volturi live in an ancient Tuscan city called “Volterra”. 4) Aro and Jane’s powers do not work on Bella.
Director Chris Weitz on the Volturi -- "No matter how strange one of the characters is in a work of fantasy, I think you have to approach them as people and then so you start to think, 'They've been around for 2,000 years. How would they interact with one another?' The conclusion was that after 2,000 years you'd probably be more than mildly insane. No matter how cultured or gracious you appear on the surface. And I think that's what Michael Sheen managed to portray as Aro, the head of the Volturi -- on the surface he's terribly gracious, warm, a wonderful host and at the same time he's lethal and frightening. It's also what Dakota Fanning conveys as Jane. She's innocent looking in appearance but she's absolutely deadly. The first thing I wanted to do was put them in a setting that wasn't Dracula's castle. There have been so many vampire movies and werewolf movies and horror movies where everything has been dark and dreary. Instead, their headquarters is surprisingly light and crisp. And the characters that they play have a kind of a tactile reality to them in spite of how bizarre their situation is really. The whole point is not to leave Forks, Washington where everything has really been quite realistic and then suddenly go to a location that completely throws you out of the movie. And the set although it's huge and grand and magnificent actually feels like a real place."
Moviefone shares an exclusive look at Caius, as well as some details:
Allow us to reveal the first official image of Caius, the most sadistic of the ancient Italian vampire coven. Caius is played by Jamie Campbell Bower, who knows a thing or two about bloody good times from his stint as Anthony Hope in 'Sweeney Todd,' and will also soon be seen as Gellert Grindelwald in the 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' movies (can he and R. Patz broker peace between warring fan armies?)
So what else do you need to know about Caius? This ominous vamp was born in a suburb of Cincinnati in 1988, is a Libra, and enjoys snowboarding, Fruit Roll-Ups and old re-runs of 'Blossom.' (Kidding!)
Caius was born around 1300 BC, though the date of his transformation and his special powers are unknown. But we do know that he really, really wants to kill Bella, Edward, and Alice. And we're not going to lie, he looks pretty good for a 3,300-year-old.
Full Name: Marcus Status: Vampire Group: Volturi Coven Date of Birth: Around 1300 BC Date of Transformation: Unknown Special Abilities: He sees the strength of the relationships between people
“You already know what you’ll do, Aro.”
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION: Marcus is the most detached of the Volturi leaders. The loss of his mate has essentially turned him into a zombie over the centuries. He is surprised by the intensity of Bella and Edward’s relationship.
Seth shares the following on Stephenie Meyer's Official site: I just received the following announcement from Atlantic Records (the record label that produced the Twilight Soundtrack):
The first single has officially been confirmed for the New Moon Soundtrack! Death Cab for Cutie has written an exclusive song for the movie entitled 'Meet Me On the Equinox.' Below is a statement from the band about the song:
"We are very excited to be a part of this amazing series of novels set in our own backyard. It just seemed a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We wrote 'Meet Me On the Equinox' to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. This song marks the first attempt that Death Cab for Cutie has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film and we are proud to be a part of the Twilight legacy." — Nick Harmer / Death Cab for Cutie
Additionally, we have the exclusive premiere of the soundtrack album cover below! The soundtrack will be in stores on October 20th, 2009, stay tuned for more information!
You can pre-order the New Moon Soundtrack now, and we will be posting more artist information as it becomes available. And, if you need some ideas for things to purchase to qualify for free shipping (over $25), I would suggest the Breaking Dawn Special Edition and the Eclipse paperback, which both went on-sale this month.
Having David Slade on Twitter is a definite plus as far as insight into filming for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse goes. Last time, we got to hear Slade's take on the performances issued by Xavier Samuel on-set the filming process, and now he has spoken up about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
Said Slade, "Shot with Rob and Kristen today, both gave great performances. Lots of frustrating noisy planes overhead but beautiful scene regardless."
Looking over some of the recent information we've seen about Eclipse, one might surmise that the scenes involved in the shoot would have something to do with the newborn vampires and Victoria's army. Why? Well, according to an earlier report, Dakota Fanning has finished her portion of filming, and everyone saw the photos of Bryce Dallas Howard and Samuel on-set filming a notorious kiss scene. Not to mention, the newborn hide-out photographs made their way across the net to illuminate that portion. Also, "planes overhead" probably refers to some outdoor action (though it could very well not). On the other hand, some of the battlefield scenes will require the presence of Boo Boo Stewart, who has stated in an interview that he will not be on-set until September.
So, what scene is it that Slade tweeted about? Your guess is as good as any. Thoughts?
It all started in July '08 when I was looking for a good beach read. Three books and three days later, I was unconditionally and irrevocably obsessed with all things Twilight. After a year of countless email updates to three very lovely ladies, it only took me a little bit of convincing to finally start my own blog. I hope this is a place where you can come to get your daily or weekly fix. ;-)
